Victorian Combination Scent Bottle Vinaigrette Locket Jenner & Knewstub England

Description

A curious silver combination vinaigrette, scent bottle, locket, and seal by Jenner & Knewstub.  The piece is 2.75" (7cm) in height.  The top portion opens to reveal a pierced grill vinaigrette.  The spring loaded central portion opens with the push of a small button to reveal the scent bottle.  The base contains a small glass-covered locket compartment and is mounted with an uncarved bloodstone, probably intended to be a seal.  The piece is not hallmarked but tests silver.  It contains a small plaque for Jenner & Knewstub.  It is also marked with an English 'lozenge' for the 28th of September 1860.  The patent is registered to Jenner & Knewstub.
There is a hairline crack running across the diameter of the bloodstone.  The silver on the top of the piece is splitting.  Also, it can be quite difficult to get the central portion to stay closed; the latch slips.
