    The
    Merry Christmas Ornament
patch is an unprecedented patch issue that is one-of-a-kind.
It celebrates both our Christmas Holiday as well as the upcoming 2021 Duty To God Pilgrimage hosted by the Philmont Training Center, Cimarron, New Mexico.
The Merry Christmas patch is both a fund raiser and a holiday celebration patch and the First Known Christmas patch like this in Longhorn Council as a fund raiser benefiting Troop and Crew 32 sponsorship of
2021 Duty To God Pilgrimage Course hosted by Philmont Training Center.
    Patch Description
The 8 color Merry Christmas Ornament patch reflects Mary and Joseph hovering over the newly born Jesus.
Jesus is wrapped in swaddling cloth, bathed in the light of the star that brought the 3 wise men, and lying in a manger.
Mary sitting beside the manger and holding the baby Jesus a moment before the wise men appear before them bearing gifts.
On the back of the Merry Christmas patch is a special Tooth of Time patch "Philmont"
This 2020 patch issue was created before the 2020 Philmont season was cancelled.
    Pray Daily Patch
Since the first pilgrimage in 2007, Scouts and Scouters of our program have conducted a unique prayer offering following church services at Philmont.
During 2007, our Scouts said prayers in 50 different languages.
As each Scout says their assigned prayers, they light a blue glowstick.
By the end of the prayers said, the sun has set, the final prayers are being said and the blue glowsticks reflect the image of a cross in the darkness at Philmont.
The visual images of blue glowsticks and the cross against a mountain backdrop is a powerful image that creates a lasting memory of a unique way of Praying to Our Lord.
We continued this tradition of prayers following services in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and were going to do this in July 2020 until Philmont Closed.
The 2" by 2" patch with a blue border shows the word Philmont in English as well as Japanese.
We have already rescheduled our pilgrimage to 2021 but have these patches for those who wish them.
Longhorn Council Troop 32 (shown as LCT32 on the patch) sponsored our 2020 trip but
our 2021 Duty To God Pilgrimage is hosted by Philmont Training Center.
The 2021 Duty To God Pilgrimage will be an Inaugural beginning of a program where Scouts can earn the Scouting Religious Award of their faith as well as earn several International Scouting Awards
    St Paul Miki Patch
During 2012, we took a “leap of faith” and invited Scouts from the Scouts of Japan to join us on our pilgrimage to New Mexico and Philmont.
After working out the details, they flew over and traveled with us on our pilgrimage.
They were responsible for presenting the life of St Paul Miki to our Scouts.
After they were done, we surprised them in 2012 with a St Paul Miki patch that we have continued on each of our trips since then.
St Paul Miki is considered the greatest Saint of Japan.
The figure of St Paul Miki is holding the cross and olive branches.
St Paul Miki is seen this way because he dragged his cross for over 100 miles before being crucified on the cross in Japan.
Even as he was being crucified, he forgave his tormentors and offered them peace … which is represented in the olive branch.
The words “St Paul Miki” and “Philmont Scout Ranch” are translated into Japanese as this represents the BSA and Scouts of Japan effort organized by 2 groups of Scouts in faith.
This tradition continued in 2014, 2016, 2018 and was to continue in 2020 when the Philmont cancelled all programs through July 31
